CONTENTS

This Section contains the Memorial Inscriptions to be found within the Church, the surrounding Churchyard of St Mary the Virgin, Wirksworth, Derbyshire and the Cemetery. The list was compiled by The Derbyshire Ancestral Research Group and is taken from their reports:

The Wirksworth Index has been used to trace as many links as possible between the Parish Registers and the MI's. These links are listed in the final part of this Section. Both Links and Inscriptions use the same MI code numbers to allow reference between one and the other. In many instances it is possible to trace these links further back than has been done by the Author. Occasionally the Registers highlight an error in the MI list because of the stone being eroded or broken. MI's which have NOT yet been traced with Links are indicated thus: **Ch99

ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS

Grateful thanks are given to the DARG for permission to copy parts of their report, and for the immense labours necessary to record the material. Since the report was originally only prepared by typewriter by DARG, it has been necessary to photocopy, post, scan and OCR in order to digitise the text, send by e-mail over the Internet, then transfer the result to Word Processor and HTML format to display on this Web-site . It is hoped that not too many errors have crept into the text as a result of this long pipeline. Unfortunately the process cannot cope with the underlinings which indicate difficulty in reading gravestone text. The vital process of Scan and OCR was performed quickly and efficiently by Bob Belfield of Bere Alston, Devon, to whom the author's grateful thanks are proffered.
