Wirksworth, from Gilkin

Wirksworth was the old capital of the lead mining industry in Derbyshire, before 1910. Built at the head of Ecclesbourne Valley and surrounded by hills on three sides, the bulk of the town roofscape is still the same almost a century after these photos were taken.
