Wood Bank House, hexagonal shaped gable and Gothic tracery windows

Wood Bank House, a gamekeeper's lodge in 1800, in the Gell Estate.

Wood Bank House, Hopton

Built around 1800 about 670 yards East of Hopton Hall by the Gell family, first used as a gamekeeper's lodge and barn. Lived in by Thomas Taylor, probably from his marriage in 1830, as gamekeeper, Bailiff and Land agent, Taylor raised 12 children. Particularly notable for the hexagonal shaped gable, Gothic tracery windows and conical roof, it is a Grade II listed building. Constructed of dolomitic limestone (from quarries near Brassington) with plain blue clay tiles.
Postcode DE4 4DF (use to find on Google Earth).
